How Does It Work

Prysm iO uses Spectral Rai Technology, a specific type of light technology, which consists of over 700,000 individuals hyperspectral absorption measurements per scan to accurately assess light absorption in the skin. These measurements are converted into your Prysm Score using a predetermined algorithm powered by AI and referencing Raman technology.

It also utilizes a series of light emitting diodes (LEDs) to measure carotenoid levels in the skin, while accounting for other biological markers that could affect your Prysm Score.

How To Use

1. Turn on the device by pressing the power button.
2. Place the pad of your index finger over the lens. The scan will begin automatically. Keep your finger in place throughout the scan for accurate results.
3. The lights will circle for 15 seconds while the scan is in progress. When complete, a single flashing light will show your Prysm Score colour zone.
4. After 10 seconds, the lights will turn off and the device will be ready for the next scan.

Tips for accurate scans

• Place Prysm iO on a flat, level surface before scanning.
• Keep the device away from water and moisture.
• Make sure your finger is clean and dry.
• Align the centre of your fingertip with the centre of the scanning lens as accurately as possible. Make sure your finger fully covers the lens to block any external light during the scan.
• Remain still during the 15-second scan.

Clinical Studies

Nu Skin conducted an in-house, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to compare two non-invasive methods of detecting skin carotenoids: the Pharmanex S3 BioPhotonic Scanner and the Prysm iO.

A total of 46 healthy adults aged 20 to 65 completed the study. Subjects were given either a supplement containing vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and botanicals (n=29) or a placebo (n=17), with instructions to take the product twice daily with meals for 12 weeks.

Skin carotenoid levels were scored throughout the study using both the S3 BioPhotonic Scanner (palm) and the prototype Prysm iO device (fingertip). Both devices showed similar patterns in tracking changes over time: on average, individuals taking the supplement showed a 43% increase (S3 BioPhotonic Scanner) and a 46% increase (Prysm iO) in their skin carotenoid levels after 12 weeks.
